Fitness Club Continues On

The morning fitness club was formed to train for the Run for Something Better as part of the Hartford Marathon.  The students had so much fun during their morning fitness club that they have decided to keep it going.

Thanks to Ms Golden, our new PE teacher for setting up cardio activities and motivating the students to "keep on going".

The club is open and welcoming  to Middle School students.   Parent permission is necessary for joining.

Girls' Volleyball

The first ever Girls' Volleyball team began practice the second week of school and has come together as a great group of very supportive, enthusiastic and committed girls.  Their skills have been improving and they won their first match last week.  The scores are very close and you can hear the cheering all over our school.  We are very proud and excited about our team!

A special thanks to Ms Gilbert who found a sponser for our girls' team.  Ms Gilbert surprised the girls with new volleyball uniform shirts in our Breakthrough maroon.  The shirts say Breakthrough Royals and each girl has a number on the back.  The team was thrilled!

The coaches were treated to matching shirts that say COACH on the back!

Run For Something  Better

A group of 25 students have started a running/fitness club that meets each morning at 8:00 AM in the Breakthrough gym.  Ms Golden, our new Physical Education teacher has set up cardio stations around the gym and the kids rotate through the stations and run laps around the perimeter of the gym.  Music is motivating and keeping the energy high.

18 students and 2 teachers (Ms Golden and Mrs. Kellogg) participated in the Run For Something Better as part of the ING Hartford Marathon.  We all finished the race and brought medals and bright orange T-shirts home.  There will be a banner hanging in our gym.

Students are already planning to join the run next year.  We hope to double our student participation.  It was a blast!!
